Travelling within the Philippines by old japanese manufactured ferries is definitely comfortable and not more or less dangerous than in europe.The food was pretty good,no reason for complaints.
An exellent publicbus transportsystem which is cheap and efficent does operate almost everywhere,even in the farest provinces.
For special rides to special places it is like elsewhere in Asia possible ,to hire a car motorbikes or minibus.
Travelling by bus to the provinces you can not compare with european standard,but you re involved in an unforgettable livemovie,when the bus passes small villages and you do watch the humans at their alldayswork.
Manila(huge,polluted,overcrowded)approximately 8Million citiziens has measured of it s seize not too much to offer "a la sightseeing"of the touristclass.
Rizalpark,harbourcruising,interesting chinatown and a ride by Manilas skytrain across the slums where you do realize the highest konzentration of christian(baptist)churches.
Intramuros ,with it s old ruins from the Spanishcolonialperiod is another district which is worth to visit.
Many nightclubs,from bottom to exclusivendlevel do offer entertainment of the special sort discos,musicpubs,billiardsalons,movies and supremly modern shoppingcenters are available for entertainment,shopping and meeting people.
Unfortunately I did narrow miss the Philippinespecial bloody easterweek in San Fernando province Papangas on Luzon.Locals told me about the massive selfflaggelations,and to top it all,humans who do nail humans to the cross.
Even the Vatikan does disclaim this religious madness,but which foreigner is able to understand the poor lifesituation,the problems and the extrem strong believe in Jesus Christ.
The Philippines have to offer a very wide variety of landscapes.Beautiful beaches for relaxing and swimming,wonderful waterfalls in the jungle,many interesting places to discover(trekkingtrips to the volcan Pinatobo)for example.Or the worldfamous"Hanging Coffins of Sagada".
I did travel around the P.by ferrys,bankas,busses,and motorbikes,without any serious problems.
Provided you take time,there are plenty of colourful festivals and things to see and to do.
Interesting is it to go to an openairdisco in the provinces,you do enjoy yourself for guarantee.
The humans are towards foreigners not exaggerate,more distanced friendly
It is a great fun travelling around the Philippines.
