In 1997 i did live and work several months in Australia/Sydneyarea to earn some money for my journey across the 5th continent. Because of my job in a motorcycleshop i ve got contact to "Aussies" who do have more knowledge about (their??) country than plenty of touribrochures. I became introduced to friends familymembers ,who where been from parkrangers.to policeofficers and roadtraindrivers. They did supply me with that much information and advises regarding choise of equippment ,road and weathercondition, warnings of the wildlife (which is not to underestimate) Meet with Aboriginalhumans and many other things ,so that I do suppose to have meanwhile more backgroundknowledge about longdistancerides, than many Aussies who do live along the coasts in cities. I did start my journey in Sydney along the eastcoast to Brisbane.Along the coast everything is available.Than I did start travelling inside the country as selfserver to test my pioneerspirit. I did pass mount Isa,Tennant Creek destination Darwin. It s a very special lifestyle in centralaustralia and in no manner compareable with the lifestyle along the coast.Rodeos, farmlife, mines, ghosttowns, aboriginals and an incredible wildlife, dingos emus, lizzards, wilddonkeys, camels, kakadoos are just a few of them. I was been well advised of my friends and the parkrangers what I should better pay attention for. Because of the dimensions of the continent you may consider about inlandflights. Australia has much more to offer, except "Ayers Rock"and the "Great Barrier Reef" . By myself I would prefer to see the places of interesting after I d check the weathercondition depending on dry or rainseason and making my decision individuell, because who can enjoy his/her journey when complete districts are overflooded??? Many things are possible to arrange, from trips across huge nationalparks on selfservicebased campervan to walkabouts to Sydneys redlightarea"Kings Cross"for entertainment.Or have a spectacular view from the top of the centrepointtower over Sydney the harbourbridge, and the olympicarea,in a relaxed atmosphäre not in a huge tourigroup. Nice to see whals or dolphines on their migration from close but safe distance from a boat. An immigrationcountry like s`tralia is definitely multikulturell, and it is a neverending story to report about the variety of international food which is available mainly in the cities. Gold and opalmines, deserts and beaches, forests and mountains, sun and snow, different climateares, tropical climate in Queensland and up north,in the south and Tasmania equivalent to europe. Unbelieveable huge farms, which do exist almost indepandent from the rest of the world hundereds of miles in beetween to the next village or neighbourhood. Big roadtrains transporting goods from north to south, from west to east escorted by huge dustclouds. Funny streetartists and everywhere existing clubs for everything(guns, rerurned soldiers, animals)and everybody(no membership required)do offer Aussielifestyle and perfect hospitality. Old pubs from the pioneerperiod are mostly frequented by bushmen and locals and are in every case worth stopping over when the humans entertain themself and the pubguests with fidel, guitar and mouthorgan. Outbackrodeos, where hardened stockmen fight for honour and glory on the back of living bulls are faces of Australia away from the normaltouristtrail. (Travellroute see Australiamap) |
